Terms.
The deal, in plain words
1. What Cold Read is
Cold Read splits a screenplay you provide into scenes and produces a reader's reaction to each scene in order, using a language model that is only ever shown the scenes up to that point. That's the whole service.
2. Your script stays yours
You keep every right in anything you upload. Nothing here transfers ownership, copyright, or any interest in your screenplay.
By uploading, you grant only the narrow permission needed to run the service: to store your pages, transmit them to the model provider to produce the read, and show the results back to you. That permission ends when you delete the material.
You confirm you have the right to upload what you upload — that it's your work, or you have permission from whoever's work it is.
3. Credits
A credit is one complete read of one script by one reader, from the first scene to the last, regardless of script length. Credits are spent when a read starts.
Credits are not money, don't earn interest, and can't be transferred between accounts. They do not expire.
Credits are added to your balance only when a payment provider confirms a completed payment.
4. Payment and refunds
Payments are processed by Stripe. Prices are in US dollars and shown before you pay.
If a read fails, stops part way, or returns something plainly broken, the credit goes back on your balance — email and it's done. Unused credits are refundable if you ask within 30 days of purchase. Credits spent on completed reads are not normally refundable, since the cost of producing them has already been incurred; if a completed read was genuinely useless, say so and it'll be dealt with reasonably.
Full detail on the refunds question.
5. What the reactions are, and are not
A reader's reaction is the output of a language model. It is one simulated reaction to your pages, produced under a deliberate constraint, and it is useful for exactly one thing: seeing where a reader's attention rises and falls.
It is not a professional assessment, not coverage from a studio or agency, not a prediction of commercial success, and not advice about what to do with your script. It can be wrong, unfair, or simply miss the point — some of the readers are designed to be hostile on purpose. Decisions about your work are yours.
6. Fair use of the service
Please don't:
- Upload material you have no right to upload.
- Try to get around the trial limits, or run the free trial at scale from many addresses.
- Attack, overload, or attempt to break into the service.
- Use it to generate abuse aimed at a real person.
Accounts doing any of the above can be suspended. If an account is suspended for one of these reasons, unused credits will still be refunded.
7. Availability
This is a small service with no uptime guarantee. It depends on providers — Anthropic, Stripe, Cloudflare — whose outages will take parts of it down. If a read fails because something was down, the credit comes back.
8. Liability
Cold Read is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, liability for any claim connected with the service is limited to what you have paid for credits in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability for anything that legally cannot be limited.
9. Ending it
You can stop using Cold Read and delete your account at any time by emailing from your account address. Unused credits are refundable on account closure under section 4.
10. Changes
If these terms change materially, the change will be described here rather than quietly swapped in. Last updated August 2026.
